Excavation across the city of Peterborough
Peterborough is the hub of our service area, and city lots bring their own challenges: established neighbourhoods with tight side yards, mature trees, older drainage, and the City of Peterborough Site Alteration By-law governing any grading, fill, or drainage change. We handle foundation and basement digs, additions and garages, weeping tile and drainage repairs, lot grading, and utility trenching on properties from East City and Ashburnham to the north end and the suburbs along the Otonabee.
Working with the City by-law
Because Peterborough is a city, almost any project that changes your grade or drainage needs to be checked against the Site Alteration By-law, and many need a permit. We confirm this during the free quote and handle the application and grading plan so your job does not get a stop-work order. See our permits guide.
City lots, older homes, and drainage
A lot of Peterborough's housing stock is older, and wet basements from poor grading and failing weeping tile are common. We regrade lots to move water away from foundations, replace weeping tile, and build swales that keep runoff off your neighbour's property and out of the municipal system. On infill and addition projects we plan access carefully so we can work without tearing up an established yard.
