What is foundation excavation?
Foundation excavation is the controlled dig that creates space for your footings, walls, and basement. It has to be the right depth, square, and stable, with proper shoring and drainage so the hole stays safe until concrete goes in. We handle new homes, additions, garages, and walkout basements across Peterborough and the Kawarthas.
What we excavate
- Full basements and walkouts
- Crawl spaces and slab-on-grade pads
- Garage and addition footings
- Underpinning and lower-existing digs [TENANT TO CONFIRM scope]
- Weeping tile and foundation drainage trenches
How much does foundation excavation cost?
Foundation and basement excavation is project-based, priced by the size of the dig, soil and rock, and how easy the lot is to reach. Machine time runs $50 to $150 per hour as a baseline. Tight or rocky Kawartha lots take longer, which we explain in the quote. See the cost guide.
Tight access and rock in the Kawarthas
Many lots around the lakes are narrow, sloped, or sitting on shallow rock. We plan machine size and access before we start so we are not stuck halfway through, and we coordinate spoil removal and hauling so your site stays workable. We also confirm whether your dig and grading need a Site Alteration permit. See permits guide.
